• Blogging to the Bank
http://www.xsitepro-videos.com/bttb.html
Blogging to the Bank is a new ebook written by Rob Benwell, a young UK product developer. I bought Blogging to the Bank to review it, as I tend to do with most of these types of products, but this one is different... because I'm actually going to use it.
The concept is very simple - use blogs to earn an income from affiliate programs and Adsense, though the affiliate programs are going to make you more money.
Rob points this out and, as he rightly says in Blogging to the Bank, you need to spend some time choosing the right affiliate product to promote.
You're taken through the entire step-by-step process of setting up your blogs, which doesn't take long, creating the links/content/adsense blocks on your blog template and getting those blogs into the search engines for maximum ranking.
The entire process is simple to do and Rob's instructions are clear and to-the-point. There's no fluff or filler, which you can tell as the book contains just 39 pages. But that's great - I want to learn, not read bullshit.
The other amazing thing about Blogging to the Bank is that it's jumped straight to the top of the ClickBank Marketing category, which is an amazing achievement. This is down to Rob doing a successful product lauch and getting onboard quality JV partners. Rob's followed the 101 formula for product launches and he's done a fantastic job, especially as this is his first IM product.
I've been putting the process Blogging to the Bank teaches into practice. Here we are 3 days later... and I'm already in profit. That's speaks volumes about the quality, easy to read and understand content Rob has put together.
I give this book 9/10. The only thing that stops it getting 10/10 is the poor-quality audio on the videos he's recorded. There's a ton of hiss and crackle and I had to turn my speakers way up to hear anything. Then when I put on some MP3s I nearly blew the windows out of my office because the volume was set to max.
If you're serious about making quick, consistent money from the internet using a tried, tested, and proven formula, then you should really be investing in Blogging to the Bank.
• Resale Rights and Price Fixing
This is a really intresting topic that has been hotly debated recently, so I thought it'd be worth posting a small article on it.
Let's get the biggest point out of the way first: you CANNOT sell resale rights to someone, offering them 100% of the profits, and also set a minimum price OR stop them from giving away the product.
Once you've sold them the rights, AND they're keeping 100% of the profit, you've got absolutely no say in the matter.
The only way you could *possibly* stipulate that they must sell the product at a minimum price is by NOT giving them 100% of the profits and, rather, give them a share of the profits. But by doing this, they are effectively an affiliate.
Now, this is very important because there are so many people who sell Resale Rights to their products and say 'but you can't sell it lower than $47, you can't sell it on eBay, you can't give it to your Great Aunt Gladis.' Sorry, but I can.
If I buy resale rights from you, giving me the authority to sell it and keep 100% of the profits, I can do anything I want with that product. Just because I don't have Private Label Rights doesn't mean I can't sell it on eBay for 99p.
The only thing you can do is *suggest* to your purchasers to not drop the price below the recommended price. That's it.
Or is it?
I was reading a interesting article on this a couple hours ago, and one guy managed to find a way around it. What he did was stipulate that the sales letter could not be changed in any way. This meant that the only price displayed is the one he recommended.
There are huge holes in this, however. The resale rights holder doesn't need to charge that price when someone clicks through to the payment processor, and there's nothing to stop him adding a DHTML pop-up saying 'Hey! Ignore that price! Really it's gonna cost ya 10 cents, not $197". The sales letter hasn't been changed... the code has.
Or the reseller could simply put up a teaser page that says 'The page you're about to visit has the price stated as $997, but really it's £2.27. Click on the payment button to see for yourself!"
It all comes back to one thing. You can't force someone to sell your product at a fixed price when they get resale rights and 100% of the profit. It's called price fixing, and it's highly illegal.
Please note, I'm not a lawyer and this is in no way legal advice. If in doubt, talk to someone who knows... like your lawyer. After all, I could be completely wrong.
• Portal Feeder - My Thoughts
This is just a quick post to give you my thoughts on the huge buzz surrounding Portal Feeder.
Many, many people have said they thought the pre-launch campaign was a disgrace, using peoples' fears (the whole, 'Google's gonna cut your nuts off' thing). Well, to those who oppose this I say... welcome to the world of copywriting.
And more importantly, if you believe the press surrounding Google's plans, then these machine generated sites WILL get dropped, so the copy is telling the truth. It's just that Dr. Kilstein phrased it so well it turns your pants brown.
Now, I can't comment on the Portal Feeder product because I didn't buy it. To be honest, it wasn't really the $197 a month membership fee that put me off, it's the fact that I knew it was going to be buggy.
I've been a professional software developer for over a decade, and I can't believe the number of bugs I find in such scripts. Like I said I didn't join so I have no first-hand knowledge, but from what I've read on various forums, there are A LOT of bugs in the Portal Feeder software... too many people have said it for it to be purely speculation.
Some might argue that bugs are bound to be there and will need 'ironing out.' But as a professional software developer, I think that's crap.
If software is properly tested, it won't have bugs. Period. Okay, so it may still have one or two, but an expert programmer will draw up an expert test plan. The software will be tested to destruction. Every conceivable combination of data entry and combined processing will be hit. But the odd couple of bugs may, and if there's a lot of code, probably will remain.
It's a fact of life. We're only human, after all. BUT... there are a stack of so-called experts out there producing software that simply doesn't work. (Note I'm not calling Mark a 'so-called' expert, or a poor programmer. He just can't test for shit apparently).
I bought Traffic Hurricane earlier in 2005. It arrived 2 months late it flat-out didn't work. The first time I used it, it collapsed in a fit of PHP errors. How the hell can that happen?! TEST THE BLOODY THING!
I digress. Sorry.
Okay so this post isn't as short as I thought it'd be. That's just me rambling on. Back to Portal Feeder.
One of the things that was hotly debated was Jason Pot-cash's claim that there would only be 375 copies sold, and he was allowing 275 lucky souls to get in 30-minutes early. This turned into a disaster because by the time the majority of subscribers actually received the email, the 275 seats had long gone.
The solution? Open the sales for 24 whole hours, that way everyone's a winner! Ever seen a Mclaren F1 go from a standing start to 200mph? Well let me tell you, it's nothing compared to how quickly Jason's credibility went from hero to zero.
Which I actually think is a shame, because I genuinely think he just didn't... think. The 275 early bird seat idea backfired in a big way. If you can call getting $197 a month off of 800 people instead of just 375 a 'backfire'.
Seriously though, the real, genuine reason I didn't take the offer is because, like I said earlier, I knew it would be buggy, and also because I can create my own niche content sites with 1,000 pages in less than an hour. Sure, I have to publish a dozen pages manually every few days, but that's about 2 minutes work.
And is the price really that high? I mean, $197 a month will buy you a car as opposed to some buggy software... BUT for a number of the Portal Feeder members - I suspect around 3% - it will be an incredibly low-price considering what they're earning from it.
But that 3% are those who actually put in the effort... when the software's fully working.

• The Rich Jerk... The (anything) Jerk... and so on
I've been a tad bit busy over the past month, hence no posts. And it's gonna be the same for the next couple of months at this rate. I really need to start outsourcing more of my projects!
This is just a quick post about the explosion of the "I'm rich, you're a pathetic loser" ebooks of late.
Let's get this straight. The original ebook to use this form of advertising was The Rich Jerk. Using some exceptional copywriting techniques, this ebook has swept across the internet like wildfire. It's currently got an Alexa rating of about 3,400... which is impressive for an ebook.
But does it really reveal anything? Well yes, it does. For the newbie it's a Godsend. It's full of excellent information that's written in a funny, easy-to-understand style. Even for an experienced IM it contains information that most would not have thought of.
The Traffic Brokering section is particularly good, especially for those getting into Google Adsense.
Although it's a short ebook, (just over 40 pages) every page is full of information. It's not padded out with pointless drivel - it gives you the information you need without wasting your time.
But what of the other 'jerk' ebooks? My advise is simple: ignore them. Sure, saying this is gonna piss off a lot of the authors, but they're using exactly the same sales techniques and I'm not 100% convinced their work is genuine. I'm sure some are, but at least 1 is not.
I have seen one, which I won't name, that has been so blatently Photoshop'd it's a complete joke. He's even forgot to comply with Google's TOS and has left the Adsense Impressions and Clickthru Rate numbers visible. It screams amateur... fake... ripoff.
So if you want to pay out some cash on a 'Jerk' ebook, get the best, get the original... get The Rich Jerk.
